It had been a long hard day at the office. The last thing that Chuck Wilson wanted right now was a distraction. Unfortunately, that is what he got.

His cellular phone started to ring.

“Oh, great that’s all I need.” He said with a sigh. Reluctantly, he flicked on the right turn signal. The car pulled off the highway and came to a stop at a rest area.

Suddenly from out of the darkness, a police officer walked over to the car.

He tapped on the window.

Chuck wound down the window to about halfway.

“Whatever you do don’t answer that phone.” The police officer warned with a worried look on his face.

“Why?” Chuck asked.

“Too many people have died in this town already. That‘s why.” Without saying another word, the police officer turned around and walked back toward the patrol car.

For the next few minutes, Chuck just sat in his car and did nothing as the phone continued ringing. It might be important, he thought. It could be the office, his wife or maybe his teenage daughter is in trouble and needs help.

“This is ridiculous,” he said quietly to himself. Therefore, without any more hesitation he picked up the phone. “Hello.”

At first, the only thing he could hear was static interference. Then, suddenly, he heard the faint voice of a scared little girl coming through the static.

“Help me! Please help me!”

The phone then went dead. There was no dialling tone. There was no static. There was nothing.

Weirdly, the car’s satellite navigation system suddenly switched on all by itself.

Chuck put on his glasses and then stared intently at the small screen. It was showing directions to somewhere unknown to him. He pressed all the buttons desperately trying to switch it off. Unfortunately, none of the buttons worked. Cheap piece of crap, he thought.

Just out of curiosity, Chuck decided to follow the directions.

Several miles later, the car turned onto a dirt road. Tall trees and very dense undergrowth lined both sides.

After about one maybe two miles, the car came to a large house in the middle of nowhere. Chuck then very slowly drove the car up the gravel driveway and pulled up outside the front door. He sat quietly in the car for a moment before turning off the engine and pulling the key from the ignition.

Standing close to the car, Chuck looked up at the house. It was in complete darkness except for a light was on in one room and he could see the silhouette of a person standing at the window. Suddenly, the light went off and then he could hear the creaking sound of the front door opening.

Chuck walked slowly up the concrete steps, which lead to the front door.

With his heart pounding inside his chest, he cautiously entered the house. As soon as he was through the door, it slammed shut and locked itself.

Chuck Wilson never left that house.

What happened to him? Nobody knows.
